I have a Packard Bell, Legend 18CD, that's giving me the following error msg. with 2 beeps: Failure fixed Disk 1. Disk 1 is a Matsus---a CDROM, Mdl CR-562-B, plugged in to a Packard Bell ISA game/audio card. Whether I configure the Phoenix BIOS to Autotype the CDROM or use the default settings under the IDE configuration screen it still gives me the same error message. Any ideas as to what else I could try?

Does the system have a hard drive? I wonder why the Bios is detecting a cdrom drive as a fixed disk.

if the cdrom is off a isa card its not the bios giving the message. It would be the sound card.
Doesn't really matter. Your hd died. Replace it and reinstall.

Thanks for the feedback. me1: The system has a HDD it lists in the BIOS as master drive 0 and lists the CDROM as master drive 1. wanderer: I removed the card and tried connecting the CDROM directly to IDE 2 with the same results so I swapped CDROM drives only to again get the same error msg "Failure fixed disk 1"
