Failed HDD/HDD Controller?

Acer Aspire 3050-1150 notebook

Specs: Windows 7
Hi, I have got this laptop which occasionally shows a 0200 failure fixed disk 0 error. Having said this, I have reseated the hard drive, replaced the hard drive, downgraded the BIOS, seated the hdd without the caddy, checked the soldering of the hd connectors on the board, changed the cmos battery and reseated the ram.

Having done all of this, I am still getting the failure fixed disk error. I have googled and re-googled but still can't find the answer.

I downgraded the OS from windows 7 to xp and upon booting for the first time got the BSOD which gave me a Kernal_data_inpage_error 0x0000007a error. I found: "This Stop message is usually caused by a bad block (sector) in a paging file, a virus, a disk controller error, or failing RAM". I'm starting to believe that it is something to do with the disk controller. I'm almost out of ideas and need to turn to you guys for help.

Thank you

Get ultimate boot cd and start running some tests.

I never would have downgraded bios.

I would have thought that 0200 failure fixed disk 0 error was a very good indication that there is something wrong with the hard disk.

For future reference, whenever you have a problem with a computer, the BIOS is the very last thing you think of, almost an act of desperation when all other avenues have been exhausted.

Thank you for your advice, however, this was the last thing I tried (I've been at this for almost a week). It's definately not the HDD as I have tried another one and it works fine in my other laptops.

I have the ultimate boot CD and everything to be functioning fine.

I'm considering buying a new motherboard for £80..
