I'm guessing that people will just tell me that I'm screwed here, but I hope not.

Here's what I was working on:

P4 1.8 GhZ
Asus p4s333-m
I think the rest is irrelavent - let me know if you need any more detail.

Anyway, I was attempting to be lazy and update my bios via a windows flash program put out by asus. The program said the update failed, and to either try again or quit the program. I tried once more, failed again, then gave up. I didn't really think much of it at the time, just oh well. Later on, a scheduled TV recording came on through ATI's software (I have an AIW 9600XT). That never really loaded right, nor could I kill it, so after a while the resource drain made me decide to reboot. I told it to reboot, left the room for a few minutes, and came back to find it still telling me that it was in the process of shutting down. I started getting a little worried then. I shut it down manually (holding power button), and tried to reboot.

When it started to boot back up again, I didn't get much:
It will give me a good POST beep.
No video (checked different cards in different slots - vid card not problem)
CD drives will spin and all that.
HDD light stays on a for ~30 sec, then goes off.
CPU and all other fans run.

My first thought was that that program screwed up my bios, so I tried to reset it with the jumpers. No luck. OK, so I went a little further, and took out the battery for ~10 min or so. No luck still. I've tried both of those a few times each, doing different orders of that and booting. No luck anywhere.

I'm plumb out of ideas. Thanks for any help at all.

ok, so you have two options here, admit defeat and use your mobo as a paper weight, or do a hot flash, I'll hook you up with a link, but what you will need is another board just like yours, or similar with a working bios, a strong paperclip some hot glue or electrical tape, and a lot of guts for the first hot flash you do.
oh and when you do get your friends bios, dont eff it up or he may beat you :P

I always use the asus's window utility to update my bios. (I used the dos method recently though so I could do the p4p800 deluxe hack to enable PAT). Each of the asus servers have different stuff. The default is the taiwanese server, but I hear that the files there are usually corrupted and stuff. (The german server is popular)

But yeah, I think the flash program partially wrote over your bios. Like Leith says, you only have those two options.

I also remember reading something about how asus will reflash your bios for free if you pay for shipping, but the post was a long time ago, and after asus released faulty bios (people were updating to the latest bios, which was corrupt)

Or you can try to find someone online with your mobo that's willing to help you out (or a company like this one (from a google search)

You could try clearing the CMOS and hoping for the best.

Well... anybody want to lend me an ASUS P4S333-M for a little bit? I promise I won't break it... I'm an expert in these things.

Anyway, thanks all for your help. I'll let you know how it goes if I can get my hands on another chip to hotflash with. Thanks.

just had the same prob. asus will flash your chip. you just need to send it in with $5 to cover shipping charges. i took mine out of the mobo with a paperclip. be cautious witht the paperclip.

i got their address from their website, and got my chip back in a week.

good luck
