Comment: I nave my Office Jet 6110 connected to my PC and Mac through a 16ft booster cable to a bus powered USB switch then to the individual computers (for the pc this means anoth 16ft booster cable). despite using the two booster cables there is only enough signal for the pc to recognize that the office jet is even connected (you cannot print on the Office Jet via the USB). This is what Im wondering: 1.) Is there such thing as an EXTERNAL powered usb switch (and would substituting this for the bus powered one correct the problem?) 2.) Are there externally powered in-line amplifiers that I could use to boost the signal along the way? Any other sugestions are appreciated! Ben

Reply: (edit)Looks like you're aware of the cable length and power limitations of the USB specification. So, seems to me that you'd want a powered usb hub on each pc. i.e. pc-->16' cable-->powered hub-->16' cable-->usb sharing device-->cable-->printer 1. Yes, powered hub (plugs into wall) would likely cure the problem. 2. See 1. A bus powered hub allows only 100ma to power a device as a self powered hub allows 500ma to power a device. I'd use a powered hub for each pc and a sharing device (switch) on the printer end. Skip
