Specs: Windows 7

tried alt f10 etc-but no option for factory settings-always just restore earlier point-i want it factory settings-ie out of box

Doing a recovery is pretty drastic & you'll end up losing everything - all your files, programs, etc. What is it that you don't know how to fix? Did you ever create the recovery discs?

no never did discs-was my daughters-her idiot of boyfriend dropped it-then dvd player no longer reads discs/etc-and audio socket puched in-so no sound-
was hoping if start from factory-at least might get dvd back-if not i willl just get rid-
but tried everything-alt 10-does nothing-when i do get to system restore etc-always same wont go further unto-i have discs-

Just to be clear, can you get into Windows or not?

If Alt + F10 isn't working then you are probably waiting too long to hit those keys. See the links below for more on this topic.

If you can enter Windows you should also be able to perform the factory reset from there.

If the DVD drive is physically damaged from being dropped, reinstalling Windows isn't going to fix it. Does the drive show up in My Computer or Device Manager? Will it read any discs, possibly CDs but not DVDs (or vice versa), or nothing at all?
