So i recently tried installing windows update, it said some sort of family .net work update. anyways, at 84% my computer just froze up and even trying to switch windows took nearly 15 mins. So i reset the computer and shut off the power and when i turn it back on, it take about 30 mins to even look at the vista logo flashing. It take another 15 mins just to even reach the desktop, whereupon it still takes forever to do anything. I tried entering into safe mode but for some reason it wont let me anymore. I do want to reformat the computer but i cant do so until i take out the important files on it.
