Comment: I need to install an external keyboard to my acer aspire 3610, I tried a keyboard that i used an adapter to convert to usb and it wouldn't work. I even have a remote windows media xp keyboard that won't work either. I have 5 usb ports, so that's not a problem. Does the keyboard have to be usb already or is this laptop even able to add an external keyboard to it. Or can I disable the internal keyboard somehow, but I still need the external to work. I'm getting back problems and I need an external keyboard. Isis Sphinx

Reply: (edit)Using a simple connection adapter will not work unless the keyboard is a "combo" one - one that is designed to be used with either a PS/2 or a USB connection - in which case the keyboard comes with such an adapter. If it isn't a "combo" keyboard, it doesn't have the necessary circuits to use the other type of connection. You can get PS/2 to USB wiring adapters (often two female PS/2, for a mouse and a keyboard, to one USB) that have circuits built in so that you can use a non-combo PS/2 keyboard with a USB port, but that easily can cost more than a new USB connected keyboard.
