I tried to install a new HDD to my computer using an Enclosure (usb2.0) but it won't work!

Its beign recognised by the computer because its on the Device manager, called "Disk Drive" under disk drives!

but windows won't assign a letter for it, its not on my computer window!

any ideas?

thanx

Hi,

Ensure that the jumper onthe drive is set for Master, not Cable Select.

You then need to partition and format the drive.

go to control panel then admin tools then disk management and you'll see it as an unallocated space, right click it then format it and assign it a drive letter

But the problem is that the hdd won't show up at all on the disk management, so there is no unallocated space..

There are drivers that you may need to install for your USB enclosure.

Did your enclosure come with a driver CD?

What enclosure are you using?

master/slave has no relevance to USB but I am more puzzled by your operating system, what is "1.6" ?? XP can detect USB & needs no drivers & in fact it could cause real confusion if you tried loading them into XP, so I repeat, what OS are you running?

The operating systenm is XP, but i don't think its the operating system, because i tried another HDD and it worked!

And let me ask you.. If my computer uses ATA type of HDD, will the SATA work on it by using the Enclosure to connect it?

Thanxx
