External HDD uninitialized, data error CRC

January 27, 2011 at 00:24:54
Specs: Windows Vista
I have a HDD which I was trying to format and there was a power failure in b/w. I think the HDD was not formatted fully, since then I was not able to use it as the external HDD is not showing in explorer as though it is getting detected by BIOS. I reffered some threads over here and tried to format the HDD using disk management but there it is showing as "Unknown" and "Not Initialized". I tried to initialize it with MBR which is giving "Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)". Please let me know is there any way I can format this drive? Data inside that is not a problem.

it could be a faulty ram module after the power failure. memtest86 is a utiltiy you can make a boot disk with and test the ram. Test the hard drive next by downloading the manufacturers utility from their website.
