External HD not recognized

I have a Samsung MP0804H 2.5" 80 gb hard drive i want to make as an external. I have a nexstar IDE to USB case and it detected it once, only on my USB 1.1 and strangely not on my USB 2.0. I have another 2.5 HD, but it is a 60 GB Toshiba and works perfectly. On the other hand the samsung one now cannot get recognized and will only get the "windows could not recognize your USB device" error. I heard that Samsungs in particular are trickly but what can I do??? Please help....
