Did it come pre-formatted? If not then you will need to format the drive.

Thx.

I am not too sure for whether it is pre-formated. I just opened the box and attached it to my laptop.

BTW, if I need to format it, how can I do it in Win Vista? Also, I thought I should use the NTFS format, should I?

Here is how but before you do this read my second paragraph.

Right-clik "Computer" on the Windows Sphere start menu -> Select Manage -> Click Continue -> Go to File Disk Management -> Find your Removable Drive -> Right Click -> Choose Format.

The other problem besides it being formatted is that it might being mounted on a Drive Letter that already exists. In the same menu, right click the drive and choose "Change Drive Letter and Path" and select a letter you are not using.

I truly and sincerely appreciate your help. Please note that while following your instructions, I was not able to see the external drive in the list under "Disk Management". However, if I click on "Device Manager" on the same screen, I can see the drive listed under "Computer" as "External RAID USB Device".

Oh, I have just noticed on the above mentieond screen "Disk Management" that the upper half of the screen shows only the drives C and D (both are primery fixed disks and CD Rom drive. BUT, the second (lower) half of trhe screen shows the external drive that I have been talking about. The drive capacity is 2TB and the drive listed on this screen states 1863.03 GB. SO I am assuming that it is indeed the drive that I am struggling with that it can't been seen.

So when I right click on it, I get the options of "Initialize Disk" and "Proiperties". So do you think that I should click on the option "Initialize Disk"?

Please advise.

Thanks but nothing happens. Basically this drive is categorized (through black color bar) as "Unallocated"; whereas the other are categorized (through Blue color bar) as "Primary Partition".

Sorry to take your time but I hope the problem could be resolved soon. Regards!

Then you need to create a partition on the drive. Right Click and choose "New Simple Volume". Choose NTFS for the volume type and when the Format Screen comes up, be sure to select Quick or you will be there all day.

Just to share with you that when I right click on the disk, I see the option "New Simple Volume". I clicked on it and follwoed some steps and now it is being formatted. Also, the disk is now being seen in the upper portion of the screen.

I guess problem is solved but I'll wait until the format is done.

ao, that is exactly I did except that I did not opt for "Quick format". Can I cancel the format and redo the whole things with "Quick format selected"?

Ya, I think so. You do not need to make a partition this time just choose Format.
