Hi, Currently, I have an external hard drive in which I store all my work and school related data on. When i plugged it into this morning to pull up some files, the harddrive did not appear on my desktop or finder as it usually does. I tried to plug it into another Macbook but it wasnt found either. I tried changing the cable that connects the harddrive to the computer but nothing changed, nor did anything change when i switched USB ports. I also opened the casing and found nothing out of the ordinary, but i did not open the actual drive itself. All my important data is stored on this harddrive, does anyone have any idea what could possibly be the problem and/or how to fix it? Thanks

It could be a problem with the USB circuitry. I would suggest removing the drive from the external case and try connecting it to the computer internally. Another option would be to purchase an inexpensive USB2IDE adapter and try that. http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?in...

If the external hard drive uses an external power supply, that might have gone bad. This recently happened to me. Fortunately, I had bought two of the enclosures, so it was easy to verify that the power supply went bad as I had a second one to test with.

Thanks for the help, I stuck it in the freezer for about an hour and it returned just long enough for me to back my data up.
