External Hard Drive Stop Responding

I posted on this forum earlier and explained that my Maxtor 3100 external hard drive stop working on my laptop. A couple of people suggested to open it up and install it into a desktop into a secondary IDE slot. I did that and the computer reads it as a G drive but it only asks me to reformat the drive. I can't reformat the drive because all the information on the drive is too important. Is there anything I can do that I just dont know how or should I just bite the bullet and send it to a data recovery service.

I remember your other thread.

I think that your partition table is corrupted or missing.

There might be recovery software that you can use but if the information is that crucial, you are best off taking it to a recovery service.
