External Hard Drive slow moments problem

Specs: Windows Vista 32bit, Pentium 4 DUO, 2.4Ghz/4 gigs

I have the following problem. I have a Western Digital External Hard Drive 750Gb. It's writing/reading speed is really good, I have no problem with that. But the first time I saw the problem is while playing a playlist on winamp. Usually if you click a couple of times "Next Song" it changes the songs for less then a second. But if I play songs from this hardrive, occasionally on each 4-5th song, sometimes different, it has a "stuck period". It's like after clicking "Next Song" for 5-6 seconds the winamp is stuck.
After that, as sometimes I do play games :S I installed 2 games on the hard drive. Everything runs smoothly, reading speed is perfect. But sometimes when the game has to load the map for example, or at the beginning of the "round" it has the SAME "stuck" periods. On one of the game it's for around 3 seconds, while on the other the stuck periods are for 5-6 seconds.. I'm almost sure it's from the hard drive, as I have 1 other one and it doesn't make the same problem. Does anyone have any idea what can be the problem, maybe some function made on the hard drive or .... really I have no idea... And if I can't fix it, whether I'll give it to some technician, or I have to get another one if he can't fix it. Playing games is almost impossible on this hard drive, but even listening to music gets really annoying as if you want to change a song you always have to wait this "stuck time"............... Can someone please help :S

Thank you in advance!

Try plugging your external hard drive into a high-speed USB port if not already.

Usually it will have an added symbol on the USB icon.... if i remember rightly theres a + symbol denoting "high-powered port"

Just a suggestion though, not a definative solution

If I could, I would try, but unfortunately it's on my laptop. And with all the USB ports it's the same, I tried. And I think it's not from the USB, as I have another external HD, 250Gb and it works fine... Only this one makes this problems.. but I guess I need to see a technician..
