Specs: Windows Vista
Reformatted laptop. Backed up to a Moving Star Ext. Hard Drive. Now laptop will not recognize the Ext. Hard Drive. Anyone know who makes this drive? Maybe I need to get an updated driver.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Are you trying to boot to the External drive?

No, I used the windows disk that came with my Dell to reinstall the original programs and my Dell is running fine. Now I need to get the pics and other programs from the external. When I go to My Computer, it ( Moving Star ) is not showing up and I get the message that it has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.

Have you tried to access the drive in Disk Management. If it appears there you MAY need to take ownership of the files/foleders. Look at the link below to learn how to do that.

If the drive is listed in Disk Management then list the status.

It shows up as an unknown device. It says:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

I clicked on update driver and it couldn't find it on my PC or on the internet. It said to go to the manufacturers website to download the driver, but this is where the problem is...I don't know who the manufacturer is. I have the box, but it doesn't say on it either.
Again, thank you.
(By the way, I am a 55 yr old grandmother newbie!!)

I said to check in DISK Management, not Device Manager.

Locate the CD that came with the device. Check for compatibility with Windows Vista in the Users manual.

Link shows vista not Supported. Did you upgrade from WinXP to Vista?

This may not be your Enclosure

google with Name # model #.

It appears this device is no longer available on-line, found no resources for driver Download.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

Is this your external enclosure? If so, are you connecting both USB connectors?
