Subject: External Hard Drive Not Recognized OS: Windows XP HomeCPU/Ram: IntelModel/Manufacturer: Dell Dimension 8200 |
Comment: I installed an external hard drive on my Dell computer. If I go to "manage" on My Computer click on device manager - it shows the drive under hard drives. When I go to Disk Manager the external drive is shown as "healthy" with one partition. The drive does not however appear under My Computer hence I can't write to the drive. I have changed USB ports, renamed the drive, re-booted the computer and a number of other attempted fixes. Nothing works. There is something in my OS that is blocking the display of the external drive under My Computer. Any suggestions - help would be greatly appreciated.

Reply: (edit)You mean NTFS? Are you running Tweak UI and possibly have the drive letter hidden? What happens if you click on Start, Run and type in the drive letter assigned in Disk Management? Have you tried assigning another drive letter? Life's more painless for the brainless.

Reply: (edit)Yes, NTFS - sorry. If I click on Start, Run and type in x: (the drive name) it comes up. Yes, I am using Tweak UI and when I go there and select "X" everything works!!!! Hallelujah - your suggestion most appreciated.

Reply: (edit)You're welcome. I found that EXTREMELY frustrating when I ran into that problem. Never would have thought Tweak would do that.. Glad it's working for you.. Life's more painless for the brainless.
