External Hard drive isn't found

Hey so I have two external hard drives hooked up to my laptop with Windows XP (via USB port).
I recently had the power go out, and one hard drive is okay, but the other isn't detected anymore.
I tried hooking it up to my brother's laptop, but it didn't work either.
I looked in the "Safely Renive Hardware" window, and saw both of my hard drives listed there, but under My Computer, only one of my hard drives shows up.

If you see the drive in the Disk Manager, repartition, format it and restore the backup.
You do backup your data regularly, right?

The drive might have died. But I would try connecting the drive internally. The USB adapter in the external box might have died, and the drive itself might be ok.
I hope that you are going to start backing up now.

Do a Google search for 'connecting an internal hard drive'. There are several sites explaining how to do it, and there are even some videos.
Or you could swap the drives in your two external boxes.

okay thanks.
I tried using a data recovery program, "Getbackdata," and that program detected my harddrive, but it failed to save any files.
Also, I'm jsut now trying "VirtualLab," and hopefully that'll work and I won't have to tamper with my harddrives (I'm not very good with computer hardware, nor do I have much experience with it)
