Before I had a Pioneer 109 DVD writer for my Desktop, but before I have to move away so I only bought my laptop with me and so I basically bring the Hardisk and the DVD drive with me from the Desktop so I can make it an external drive for my laptop. However when I connect the DVD writer thru a USB. It function very well, it can read any Disc without any problem. But whenever I try to burn something with Nero. It will stuck at one point and it just hang. Is there any problem why the writer failed to write disc? thank you very much for your time and plz help solve my problem ~

Is the USB burner identified as a selectable drive to use in Nero? In other words does the external burner show in Nero?
What type of USB connection are you using? External enclosure or something else?

It did shows on Nero and on WinXP. It can read any Disc basically. and it is a external enclosure. I bought an external DVD Drive case to make it run as an USB device. Somehow it just failed to burn anything at all. could it be the motherboard that it does not support to use a external burning device? Thanks you for the help. Really appreciate it ~ thanks

If the USB controller is a USB 1.1 instead of a USB 2.0 that could be the problem.

Then could it be any other problem because it is a USB 2.0 device? Thanks a lot ~

Burning a disk takes bandwidth. if using a USB 1.1 port it may fail to work.

So as long as it is USB 2.0, the writer should be able to work?
