I was wondering I think my laptop has a usb 1.0 connection plug. At least it is quite old so it has to be. But I was wondering if I buy a external dvd player , will the movies be slow because of the usb 1.0 connection. But is it possible I have a 1.1 connection?

It is possible, in fact more than likely that you have a USB 1.1 connection. However, the difference between SUB 1 and SUB 1.1 is negligible. Its USB 2 that you need.

It'll most likely work but like everyone else suggested, buying a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card will be benificial. USB 1.0/1.1 has a transfer rate of 12Mbps (1.5 MB) and I'm assuming that DVD/RW can write at a much higher speed.

USB 2.0 has a transfer speed of 480Mbps (60 MB) if you wanted to know.

So if einars03 obtains a card such as.....

The only limits are the bus speed of his pci slot? Since the card claims 480, 1.5 speeds?

The above posts are bang on. I have a Toshiba 1800 (800Mhz.!) and I use a McNally USB 2.0 PCMCIA card with an IOMEGA DVD writer & I can write 4.6Gbytes of data in 12 minutes!
Go for it.
