I have a Maxtor 6 L200P0 USB external hard drive. it has worked fine for about a year, now whenever i explore it i get the windows message

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience. send error report/dont sent".

Then i also get

"The exception integer division by zero (0xc0000094) occured in the application at location 0x0405683b. click ok to terminate the program, click cancel to debug the program"

what can i do to fix this? is there the risk that my external disk crashes and i lose all of the info stored on it?

tnx!

I think your data are still intact on the external HD. The problems you described are software-related.

Can you transport the external HD to another machine to make sure everything are OK?

Did you change which USB port you have the external hard drive connected to? It should be plugged into a USB 2.0 port that is directly connected to a USB controller, such as the ports on your mboard, or ports directly connected to a header for USB ports on the mboard, or ports in a USB controller card. It may not work properly connected to a port in a USB hub even if it has its own power supply (it's a powered hub), or a port in a USB hub card.

Try connecting the external hard drive to another computer. If your external hard drive is larger than 137gb manufacturer's size, the other computer must have XP SP1 or later on it. If the other computer can see the drive and you do not get any errors when you try to access it, the problem is in your Windows configuration on your own computer.
.....

You made a common spelling mistake - the actual Microsoft spelling in the message is:

The exception integer division by zero (0xc0000094) occurred in the application at location xxxxxxxx

note the two r's in occurred.

I get no "hits" for your message with or without the two r's in occurred
e.g.
The exception integer division by zero (0xc0000094) occured in the application at location 0x0405683b
or
The exception integer division by zero (0xc0000094) occurred in the application at location 0x0405683b

- did you type the location correctly?
.....

When you search the web with:
The exception integer division by zero (0xc0000094) occurred

you get lots of "hits".

E.g. if you have Nero and a TV card:

Winfast TV 2000 XP Deluxe Application Error.
http://www.tv-cards.com/messageboar...

Nero 6.3.1.17 conflicts with Pinnacle PCTV card
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread...

After updating Nero to v 6.3.1.15 ChrisTVstopt working.
