I have a seagate external hard drive that i accidentally dropped the other day. for the most part it seemed ok but i started to noticed a couple files acting funny. so i ran system mechanic to check the disk for errors, which it said it had some, it said it locked the hard drive so it can have chkdsk run on restart.

on restart, chkdsk runs and it goes through the entire process till i gets to the system volume bitmap save, or something like that. it gives a message of not enough space to continue and shuts down. when the system restarts, it starts to hang up on the restart, running really sluggish. i figure out its the hard drive thats slowing it down. let the system boot, plug up the hard drive and it will hang up the system for 2 minutes as it checks out the hard drive.

once its done it comes up saying it needs to be formated. so i ended up trying to format it and it keeps giving me a message "windows is unable to complete the format". I have attempted to run chkdsk from command prompt but it keeps saying it cant read RAW format.

at this point i just want the hard drive back i have accepted the loss of the data. all help is appreciated. using vista home 64

You have done physical damage to the hard drive. Cut your losses and toss it. Using it for data storage at this point would not be a wise idea.
