CPU/Ram: Celeron 1.1GHz
Product: Custom (HP Motherboard)
Comment:

Hey everyone.
So I baught a SATA controller and a 200GB hard drive to put in my old P1 as a media server. That worked perfectly. But then I remembered about my 1.1GHz Celeron that was sitting all lonely under the house and I figured it would be better to use. I put the system together with some spare parts and a motherboard from a HP Pavilion 6616 and I got it going. But now every time it boots it beeps twice and I get the following message:

ERROR
Expansion ROM not initialised - PCI Mass storage controller on motherboard
Bus: 01, Device 0B, Function: 00

<F1> To Setup, <F2> To resume

The message is because of the PCI SATA controller. If I hit F2 it boots up to XP and runs fine, I can use the drive attached to the SATA controller fine. If I hit F1 it takes me to the BIOS and since it is a motherboard from an HP Pavilion there is very litle options I can change and nothing which relates to my problem. Does anyone know how I could fix this?
These are the system specs:
Celeron 1.1GHz
128MB SD-RAM (2x64)
Generic SATA controller with a Silicon Image Sata Link chipset.
Motherboard from Pavilion 6616
200Gb SATA drive
XP Pro.

Any help appriciated.

That site was posted in response to someone with the same problem. I don't know if it works.

Thanks don but those BIOS's are for different motherboards. Although I did download a newer BIOS version from the HP site. I'll let you know if it works out.

OK, now I really want to get this BIOS flashed. The new bios also adds overclocking to the bios options.

Anyhoo, when I go to flash it says "cannot flash when memory manager is loaded eg. HIMEM.sys"
Its says something to that effect anyway. I dont really know where to go from here.. What can I do now?

Try F8 or F12, whichever gets you to the boot prompt. Choose command prompt and try to run the program from there. First copy it to the HD. CD to that directory and run it.
