Expanding a Partition

Specs: Windows XP
I have a 25GB partition for my OS (Windows 7), but it is no longer big enough. I'd like to combine it with my main HD. Is there a program that will let me do this without formatting?

Do you mean combining the partiton with one on a different pysical disk? If so then no you can't. The nearest you will get to that is using RAID 0 and that is not recommened for data reliabilty reasons.

If you mean combine partitions on the same physical disk then yes you can but make sure that you backup any critical data you may have before hand. It is the type of operation that the slightest glich in the process could result in you having to reformat and start again.

I would NOT recommend doing that with Windows 7. Even though you may be using the latest build, which hasn't been determined, you still have a greater fisk than normal of something going wrong.

25GB should be MORE than enough space for any OS. Your problem may be that you are installing other programs to that partition. Just install them on the other partition. You can also store your music, pictures, movies, etc on the other partition.

BTW, you do keep at least TWO copies of all your personal files, don't you?

Yes, I have numerous copies of all personal data... and I do keep my documents, pictures, etc. on other partitions, although applications are installed onto the C: partition.

I currently have about 4GB free with 3GB of apps installed.

I am looking to combine the physical drive, currently with 2 partitions, into 1 basically.
