OS: Xp professional
CPU/Ram: Pentium IV 3.4, currently
Product: sager,8890
Comment:

I turned off Sager 8890 (similar to Hypersonic GX-8)last night and this morning when I turned it back on there was nothing to see in the LCD. I could even see the laptop drive on my home network and work with the files but cannot see a thing in the LCD, all black. I tried to use external CRT but it didn't show anything either. It seems to me that I have a video card problem but not sure because I turned it back on little while ago and it stayed on for almost 20 minutes, everything worked fine. I turned it off to see whether it was just a dream and it went all black again. It works time to time, sometimes it stops at the POST screen with distortion. I can hear windows is all running but no display. I changed the RAM modules nothing changed.

Is there any way to solve this problem via changing video card(I cannot even see how to reach a video card...) or may be opening up the LCD display and see whether anything is wrong with it.

I appreciate your help on this and sorry if I just cross posted a common problem.
Thank you.

First check the monitor cable connection on the PC side to see if it is firm, not loose. While you are there with the cable, check the cable whether it is pinched or broken.

Second open the PC case side panel and check if video card is seated properly and if video external power connection, if any, is secure.

The video card is easily distinguished because it is the one where monitor cable reaches.

If all is well, then you may have to replace the video card.

Thanks for the reply suatcini.
It would be easier to check ecerything properly if I had a desktop but mine is laptop and I cannot even see the video card. Do video card problems occur randomly? Since the problem computer went back on couple of times with n o problem. I am considering to check the LCD to check any loose connection but it is a bit of risk.

thanks

Sorry for the confusion.

When you connected an external monitor, how were you able to switch between internal and external monitors since you did not see anything ? Does your laptop give priority to the external monitor when it is connected to one ?

notebook has function key (F6 for CRT/LCD switch)for the switch to CRT or LCD. When the XP pro starts I can hear it so I hit the function+F6 but nothing happens in the CRT.

Sometimes it works for couple of minutes and suddenly goes black in the middle. Well I am confused now. Thanks for the follow up.
