Was checking things out in everest and noticed that the software provides two different sets of temperature readings. I usually look in the menu item under Computer/Sensor. Was looking in the section under Computer/Overclock and notice a second set of sensor/temperature readings. The odd thing is that there is a 4degC difference between the reported CPU temperatures. Motherboard and case temps correspond. No big deal but am interested to know if anyone has seen similar discrepancies. I might report it to the Everest website.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Hi Rich...

I took the liberty to help out friends like you :-) I checked my copy of Everest (version 2.01.347) and do not see a second set of sensor/temperature readings under Computer/Overclock. In any case my temp readings are as follow:

Mobo - 38°C
CPU - 48°C
HD - 42°C

I wonder if the above are "average" and within acceptable range?

Regards

My Everest shows as:

Mobo: 38c
CPU: 43c
PWM: 43C
HD: 31C

I don't have a set of temps under Overclocking either.

This is a postmortem to the temperature readings I posted up there.

This PC is running 24/7 so I thought it may have a bearing on CPU. I powered down the PC for 15 minutes to cool it off. After I restarted XP, the reading remains the same.

This is to confirm that there is no correlation between 24/7 and CPU temperature. What a relief to know this :-)

Maybe it's something in my motherboard then. I don't have a temperature problem at all. My temps are all around 23-26degC. I rarely check in bios what the system health shows. was just curious why two sections of Everest would report differently when I believe I only have one sensorchip on the motherboard.

When I open Everest and select the overclock menu item the sensor readings are at the very bottom of the results panel. Have to scroll down to see them. I'm running version 1.10.106

Only 23-26degC? How many fans do you have? I only have one. Should I worry about my higher temp readings?

OOps must be the "greying" brain cells.
XP User MB temps seem high, but not frightening and cpu would depend on what your cpu is and that is what I meant to ask. For Prescott, that isn't terribly abnormal. I would look at heat synch fan speed and if not 25-2700, then I might look for another fan.

Hi Rich, mine is a 2GHz Intel Pentium 4. I was on the phone with Sony TS and they told me that I will have to pay for talking to a live rep only because my warranty ran out. As long as you mentioned it's nothing to be concerned about I can live with that. Thanks :-)

And since you ask, I have two additional casefans both extracting, and the stock retail HSF. I have also committed the PC sin of removing the heatsink for cleaning purposes and put it back without replacing the thermal compound. Was just careful not to contaminate it while it was off. Cleaning out the dust fron the cooling fins made a 5deg difference.

Indeed it does make a difference (cleaning out the dust from the cooling fins with paintbrush).

BTW I am sooooo relieved to learn that the CPU temperature I reported up there is quite normal - according to Intel specs for that particular CPU :-)
