Recently, my computer has been shutting down and upon rebooting, I get the error message, "System shut down to thermal event." Sounds scary. Well, it's doing it again today, but this time it won't stay up and keeps crashing. I've read the replies here and I've heard from a computer guy seemingly indicating heat as the culprit. I'm not an expert, but my fan is working fine, I just booted it up(not running all day)and it's 40 degrees!! Where is the thermal event? Can anyone shed light on my problem. I'm lost w/o my computer and broke to boot. Please help. TY in advance. JTB

Hi TY for reply. If I can get it to stay on for 5 minutes, I will...lol. Due to cold temp in room and just having bootedit up, it's hard for mw tofathom a heat problem...just enough sources of heat. I took it apart and cleaned it really well and maybe that will help keep iton til I can d/l that program. TY, JTB

When you cleaned it did you mess with your CPU? The contact cement needs to stay on the Heat Sink or your CPU will over heat in like 5 minutes. Also, is your CPU fan spinning at full speed or is it squeeking like the baring is worn out? I could be something as simple as the sensor on the fan has failed. Try swapping the fan out.

Hi, the cleaning was just done today..after the problem and no, I didn't touch anything. Ijust wiped the base where all the dust was and used compressed ir to clean the rest. Any chance that could fix the problem? It was VERY dirty. I always used the air to clean it not realizing all it was doing was blowing it inside and collecting. And, both fans are working well...no bearing probs. There was another area at the abck bottom thatwas totally blocked by dust. TY, JTB
