error loading operating system

Specs: Windows 7
I'm using a Compaq Presario 4112 model. Windows 95. I had it in storage a long time (7 years) and recently tired to revive it for home use and so the kids could play games. When the system comes on, I see the Compaq logo then it goes to a blank screen with the wording "error loading operating system". I inserted the Compaq QuickRestore disc and 3 1/2; the system went through the reinstalling mode but when it got to restoring the original software it just sat there, no bars were indicated or showed it was downloading.

Does this mean my hard drive is bad?

The system also informed the following:

1. CDR101: Not reading drive E
2. Non-System disk or disk error
3. Unable to access drive C
4. Bad or missing command interpreter
5. Error loading Diags Partition

Can anyone help? I would be greatly appreciated.

It seem that the systen is unable to read either the hard disk or the cd drives. I would suspect a bad controller cable or loose connection.
