I had the problem with my brand new Dell system & its mouse & vista. Cursor sometimes jumps around as if it had it's own mind. Followed Seth's suggestion and switched drivers and happens a lot less but still does it once in a while.

Reply:....you have to go to Device Manager and remove the "detected" Microsoft PS/2 mouse and replace with a PLAIN PS/2 mouse and this correct the problem somewhat (it seems that the mouse still jumps on the login screen, but not in individual users' profiles.

Boy, you really dug around for that one (and it's better to give a number or link):

You did notice it's from the BEOS forum, and in regard to VMWare, right?
This is a known issue with VMWare and in a Windows XP VM
I'll never quite understand the criteria for determining the relevance of those old posts
Maybe it's a Vista problem, I don't know - - often mouse lag can be attributed to an overworked processor, so have a look in the Vista equivalent of Task Manager
"CPU/Ram: b"
wow - Vista has some weird requirements
I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.
