User began exp. symptoms a few weeks ago: mouse would freeze several times during normal operation. I switched the PS/2 mouse with an optical one (to USB port). Same problem with diff. symptoms - the cursor would drag downward without even touching the mouse as if someone else was controlling it. The laptop was on a docking station, I removed it and booted up with no external mice. The same problem occured. I ran virus/spyware scans (nothing)- reinstalled drivers. The user stated behavior still occurs but "is a little better". I also shut down all possible services that may conflict with the driver but now I'm at a loss. Any clues? Thx-carla

My mouse has a sucky program that comes along with it, that lets it do special things with the middle button (ie: bring up a menu of most used programs). When I replaced the mouse, it would keep dragging the mouse icon...reinstalling drivers didn't do anything. Un-installing the mouse software fixed my problem. I didn't even bother using the software, but it would always load up in the background for me

Unfortunately, the mouse didn't come with additional software.

This sounds like a problem I had not all that long ago.

Can you tell me what brand of mouse is it ??

And is the usb legacy support enabled in the bios ???

Did you try finding the appropriate drivers for it ??

Did this happen after you installed the last batch of updates from MS ??

IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT

Old mouse came with Dell laptop. New mouse is a Logitech Optical - and yes I did install the drivers from their website:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/downloads/software/US/EN,CRID=1792,contentid=9149

I would have to check on the usb legacy support in BIOS.

And this did not happen after any Windows updates.

Bit of strange situation I do admit, I do know form past experience that Xp did have an issue with some of the Logitec equipment.

Mouse particularly, but I was under the impression that was all sorted out.

Being a dell machine makes me think there could be a possible compatibility issue.

Plus did dell install specific drivers for the pervious mouse ???

My problem came from the Microsoft wireless package, where I was forced to run each component through each separate connector and not just the usb.

Sorry cant be much more help than that.

Let me know if you get it sorted out , would love to know what the issue was..

regards
