What chip are you talking about replacing?

Refilling the ink cartridge normally allows you to extend the life of an ink cartridge. It doesn't work with every printer, but I have found no reported problems with your printer.

Sorry, the clp-310 is a laser printer, the chip is on every toner cartridge, if I don't replace it when I refill the toner what will happen?

Your still going to try this yourself after everyone recommended not doing it?

You will also have to empty the waste toner bin in the cartridge, otherwise it will eventually fill up and waste toner will spill into your printer.

If you don't replace the chip, it will give you a message that the cartridge is empty and might stop printing. Usually there is a setting in the printer that you can turn on so it will keep printing even if it thinks it's out of toner.
