Been looking for info on jumper settings for this. It another one of those combo 3½/5¼ drives like the Teac FD-505. I already know the setting for those to change the default allocations (to 3½:A/5¼:B), but the Epson is different. Bought 3 of these combo drives at a ham radio/computer fest (probably more computer than radio!). Two were Teacs (already mounted in built systems)& the last, the Epson (to be used in a system in progress).

From what I gather the epson version of a dual floppy drive, is the nasty one... it only supports one drive at a time. You can select to have the 3.5 in use or the 5.25 ... but not both at the same time.
Epson don't support legacy products via web, so I don't support them. (No legacy on website - no purchase new stuff, good rule I think, its been good to me)
There were a few more useful links on the web but have since died. Ah well, it should not be left to a personal webpage to provide support for global companies.

I picked up an Epson SD-800 Combo Floppy drive somewhere (can't quite remember where). There are no externally visible jumpers, and I haven't needed to open the case for any reason to see if there are any internal. My Soyo mainboard BIOS allows setting up "A:" as 3.5" 1.44MB and "B:" as 5.25" 1.2MB, with "Floppy 3 Mode Support" set to "Both". In this configuration, Win XP Pro recognizes the device, and although I cannot simultaneously do both 3.5" and 5.25" reads, I am able under XP to simultaneously have both a 3.5" disk in A: and a 5.25" disk in B:, and I can easily switch between reading A: or B: through GUI (Windows Explorer) or through CMD prompt. I'm happy with the setup.

Thanks passerby, I've never owned one, so I am just working off what pages left on the web I can find. I take back my dribble in the second paragraph #1 response. I should have had a better look at the jumper page that I posted. Duh it supports both. Your response made me go and have another look. Epson products are usually pretty good, just lack longterm support.

Thanks for the info guys. I did end up finding out from the old archives of a forum found via Google that the Epson was already setup w/ the 3½" as "A:". In comparison to the Teac FD-505 that comes factory-set w/ the 5¼ as "A:" and therefore needs a reverse of the jumpers. There also seems to be two versions of the Epson; I'll call them "older" and "newer." The former has a card-edge connecter like a single 5¼ drive and the latter, a 34-pin header. I ended up getting the older version so I made a little adapter so I could connect it to a round floppy cable. Basicly, I cut the card-edge socket and about ¾" of the ribbon from a flat universal cable, then separated and stripped the leads. Took a 34-pin header circuit board from an old, dead 3½" drive, soldered all the leads from the card-edge socket to the pins then hot-glued the header-board to the back of the socket. Worked like a charm! The pinouts are the same: the traces on the top-edge of the card correspond to the top row of pins on a 34-header; 1-17, left-to-right. And the traces on the card's bottom-edge correspond to the bottom row on a 34-header; 18-34, right-to-left.
