I have an epson r200 which worked fine up until recently.
The printer wanted every cartridge replaced, so i replaced them all with new, but the printer still reads the new cartridges as needing changing.
Anyone had a similar problem or anyone have any ideas or solution?thanks

Epson is notorious for using chipped cartridges that will only respond to Epson printers; that way they try to prevent you from using cheaper generic or refill your own.
If you are using generic carts you are out of luck. I just dontated a Stylus C80 to charity because I couldn't afford the ridiculous prices Epson charges for their carts, plus one black cart would only print 44 pages.Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime;

yup, using generic carts, but why should the first generic lot work fine and the second lot just keep telling me they need replacing, when i know they are new. both generic sets are of the same manufacturer. at first i thought that it maybe faulty chips, but as all 6 carts say they need replacing, its highly unlikely.

Because most of these generic companies do not do the work themselves-most come from China/Korea. These refillers us a "home-built" chip resetter to reset the cart back to imitate Epson's settings on the "smartchip", as Epson terms them. Epson countered by regularly changing the settings as well as the physical dimensions of the chip, and that is why Epson generic carts have a lot of failures when using them. The other thing you eventually will experience it that the Epson printer recognizes the cart okay, but when the printer runs no ink is released from the cartridges. If you do a Google search you will find guys that claim to make chip resetters that work (?).
I finally gave up, and no way am I going to pay over $200 to print one standard pack of typing paper - and that is black only.
I not going to be a sex-slave to Epson because they want to get rich. I donated the C80 to charity, but I also put a warning paper inside the printer.
