I cannot enter the BIOS setup screen, no matter what buttons I press. All I get is a boot menu with F8 options. Is there a secret code to enter the BIOS of this machine.

Someone told me you must have the original keyboard hooked up to get into the bios, is this true?
F10 didn't work? If you get to the boot menu then either you're hitting the key too late or the bios isn't detecting you pressing F10. Original KB or not shouldn't matter but you might try another just in case that key is bad.

Apparently you must connect the original Compaq keyboard to enter the BIOS. Though my other keyboard works on my old PC, including the F10 key, you need the Compaq keyboard for this.
It worked as soon as I plugged it in and tried it.

Thanks for posting back. I remember an old thread where not using a compaq KB allegedly caused problems but thought that was just a coincidence so I didn't consider it a likely cause. I guess I was wrong about that. You're not really green until you're soylent green.
