OS: Winxp
CPU/Ram: celeron 1.7g/ 1 g ram
Product: epox 4g4a+ mobo
Comment:

I know that I have the option of enabling DDR333 on my epox board...but it's my understanding I need to flash the bios in order to have this support. Does anyone know where to get the AWDFLASH download for this support?
Is this a relatively safe undertaking? ALL MY THANKS WISE ONES!!!

You should get the correct update from Epox.com. Is it relatively safe? Yes, however things do happen and it is possible to render your motherboard useless if one of those remotely possible things, such as a power failure while flashing, occurs.

The chipset on the mboard must be capable of supporting DDR333. If it is, yes, there may be a bios update that enables that support if the bios version you presently have does not support it, but on the other hand it may already support it, and you should never flash your bios unless you have to.
You are taking a big risk when you flash your bios - if the flash fails, and/or the flash chip physically fails while flashing (this is COMMON - these cheap flash chips can only be flashed an unpredictable small number of times), you will have a mboard that will not boot.
If you are sure the chipset supports DDR333, buy the DDR333 ram and try it. If it doesn't recognize the 333 speed check the settings in your bios Setup - you may have to increase settings from defaults (however the setting may be 166mhz, not 333, depending on the bios you have). If that doesn't help, THEN you could try flashing your bios.

Make sure the ram you buy is going to be compatible with your mboard BEFORE you buy it. This is especially important if you are buying DDR ram.
You can look up which ram will work in your mboard for sure by using your mboard model at many major ram manufacturers and distributors.
e.g. at
www.crucial.com
www.kingston.com

You don't necessarily have to buy from the brand name's site - once you find the module numbers of the ones that work in your mboard, you can search elsewhere for the best price.

www.memorygiant.com (unspecified module numbers or generic but guaranteed to work in your system)

Regardless of all the above, for best performance, the RAM should run at the same bus speed as the CPU...in other words, a CPU:DRAM ratio of 1:1. So even if you were running a P4 @ 533FSB, all that's really necessary is PC2100 RAM at 133MHz (DDR266). I see you have a Celeron listed, so PC2700 is totally unneeded.
