Check that both drives are connected to an IDE Interface Cable [same one or 2 separate] and that they are connected to a power plud.

If so, Get into BIOS and find the IDE Hard isk Setup [or similar named page].

Do an automatic detection for hard disks.

If both are identified and properties given then you should be home and hosed.

If not..write back here what you see.

Are they both detected in the bios?

If not have the jumpers and/or ide cables been disturbed? With two hdd's, the jumpers on both can inter-relate.

Note you headed up your posting ENABLE A SECOND HDD, then posted you had lost the first. Which is correct and were they both ever enabled?

Good luck - keep us posted.

Boy, we took the pc apart last night and everything is attached correctly. About 1 month ago my system showed 10 gigs now it shows 2. I keep coming up with errors on the drivers as well. I am soooooo frustrated, never had this much of a prob before. Hubby swears he only sees 1 hard drive now, but there has to be 2, I think one is installed in a different location and he didn't think to look there, or read all of the info I gave him. THe second drive is from my old system that went out and we took it to a pc repair place and had them ad that hard drive to his pc as the drive was only about 1 1/2 yr old. Does this make sense to you or am I overly frustrated

First of all, rename yourself. We all had to learn, and sometimes in the process make silly mistakes. That does not make one an idiot.

With computer problems it is best to take one step at a time. Also you are swamping us with (possibly) irrelevant information.

You have not answered the questions in either Brian's or my replies.

If I had your problem, I would first physically disconnect the smaller hdd, and concentrate on getting the larger hdd to be recognised, with all its capacity as drive C:

Then re-connect the smaller and get that to work as drive D:

Did both hdd's ever function correctly?

Good luck - keep us posted.

Hello again, I discovered that there was only 1 hard drive on my pc (there were supposed to be 2) and it was the 8 gig. I have converted it to the Fat 32 system, However, after removing the partitions I am still only able to use 2. How do I combine the other 6 with the 2 I am currently using? I know they are there, but where did I go wrong? Thanks again to all of you.

TO do what you require, I think you have to start again, which means wiping the disk.

Use fdisk to delete any existing partition(s). Then again use fdisk to create just one partition for the entire disk. Then format it.

Alternatively if the existing data is important on the hdd, you may be able to just create an additional partition for the 6gb, that you then format and use as drive d:

Good luck - keep us posted.

Well, I don't know exactly how I did it, but all 8 are "one" now. Just had to reformat and reinstall info. Thanks for the help. Wish I knew exactly what I did though. LOL
