Hey people, I am hoping someone can help me out and possibly save me a fair wad of cash!

I have an Emprex 1016IM DVD+/-RW, and I have so far brought 2 stacks of DVD's (the packs of 25 or 50).

Long story short, I have brought DVD's from the companies called Logitek and Mr. DVD, and all of them fail in some way. Logitek could burn DVD Movies, but not data discs. "Mr. DVD" can't burn anything without it failing half way through the burn process!

Can anyone tell me the media they have the best luck with, even if not specifically with this DVD burner? I would appreciate it SO badly! At this rate I'll spend £100 on stuff that won't work *rolls eyes*

And for the record, I have burned at the highest, lowest and all speeds in between, they all screw up!

I use Verbatim media.

Are you sure that the problem is the media?

Well... I would say I'm atleast experienced technically, since I just completed a computer course, and from what I can think of... I dunno what else the problem could be :/

The IDE Cables and Mobo are very new, so data corruption or loss shouldn't be involved, I have this set-up:
Primary Master: HDD 01
Primary Slave: DVDRW
Secondary Master: HDD 02

The second hard drive is where I store the burning files, I understand having the files going down one IDE Channel, then up another helps alot? So I switched them quite a while back.

... so in Answer to Jam, no ¬_¬ But they certainly aren't on the same channel. Is it better to have the DVDRW and OS battle each other on an IDE channel? Or the OS and the Burning files battle it out?

Anyway, if that's hardly an issue, I still think it's media... but I'm open minded to suggestions ^_^

I will check for updates as well, in the mean time better media might be an idea... I think the cheapy stuff just isn't working. Infact my DVDRW is quite equipped, can do Dual Layer, and 16x DVD Burning and what not, but it's in the cheap range of £60 ($120), I dare not think that is an issue though.

"I use Verbatim media" - I'll keep an eye out for it ^_^

Could the problem be your authoring sotware?

IDE configurations aren't "set in stone", but there are general rules that you should try to go by. As you put it, "going down one IDE Channel, then up another" is optimal. If you primarily burn from HDD2, it should be on a separate channel than the burner. I prefer not to pair up two HDDs if possible, but I do think a burner is better off on the 2ndary channel as master. I'd experiment with the configuration & see if it solves the problem.

You could also try a firmware flash:

Oh yeah... okay Jam, I will try that if the simpler options fail ^_^ I remembering hearing somewhere the Master has priority over the Slave...? I will have a look into it!

"Could the problem be your authoring sotware?" - Interesting... I thought Authoring was purely creating the DVD's Menu's etc, and the physical covers and stuff of the DVD case >_< The "Make It Pretty" Software.
But if you mean Nero Burning Rom... it certainly isn't the latest full version, but it's v5.5 with the latest patch applied. I would love v6, but the beggers make me pay for that!

Infact I kinda find it clumsy these days, isn't there a better burning software available? *sighs* Now my mind is turning against it and thinks it's the cause! lol, let me try a later trial version of that as well...

You might reinstall Nero. Maybe the program is corrupt.

I use Roxio.

One step for my freedom of frustration! One giant leap for backing up files!

For the first time since I brought my DVDRW I managed to successfuly burn a DVD Containing files!

And what it took after all, was a firmware update ¬_¬ The discs are capable of 8x at max, before Nero said it could burn at 16x! But after that update, it understands the media, and can burn it perfectly ^_^

I used that liveupdate program from:
http://www.drvupdate.com/
I think it came suggested with my DVDRW, but thankyou people!

My problem seems to be solved ^_^

Are DVD's that you burn always a bit dodgey? I just tried opening it the first time round, the computer completely froze for 10 seconds, then on the second attempt it worked >_< Bit worrying, but it worked ^_^;; Time to try my DVD that's waiting to be burned ^_^

Thanks again! *And for the record, I was about 12 update increments behind the latest, lol*
