Hi.

I have an eMachines 8230 and have recently paid 'TheTechGuys' to do a format of it.

However, they neglected to install the PCI or Ethernet Controller drivers, which I cannot find ANYWHERE on the internet. This is urgent now so any help is much appreciated.

most motherboards use 'standard' chipsets from makers like SIS, VIA, Intel.
Often the best way to identify is to look at the motherboard and read the markings on the chips (the larger flat black square or rectangular bits on the motherboard).
Then go to the makers website (Intel, VIA etc) and find the drivers for that model of chipset.
It is possible the ethernet / Lan chip is by a different maker (eg. Realtek) than the rest of the board.
I appreciate this is not the easiest thing to do if you are not familiar with what the different chips look like.

Why would you pay someone to format your HDD? And if you don't mind me asking...how much does that cost??

All you need to do is find out what motherboard is in your PC, then go to the board manufacturer's site to download the necessary drivers.

It would appear that you have an MSI model MS-6714 motherboard, but there are different versions of it. Does it look like one of these?

Try using CPUZ....it *may* help you to determine what board you have, or at least the chipset the board is based on.

In all honesty it was my mate that did it.

I'm just left to clear up the mess. He paid around £90 I think.

I've got the ethernet drivers. Now am just trying to find the PCI....

Cheers so far.

not sure now what you mean by pci, are you talking about the chipset drivers for the motherboard in general / PCI slots,
OR
are you talking about a separate card that is in a PCI slot ? eg. a modem or PCI graphics card or a TV card or something?

Yeah I know.

I told him he should have just told me first and I'd have fixed it without screwing it up even more.

And it's the whole chipset. I've installed all the drivers which are referenced to on the web for myh particular chipset but to no joy.
