Emachine USB and mem stick slots not working

I have an emachine T3418 with Windows XP. I tried the online chat with emachines.com and basically I had a very rude (towards myself) and brief conversation with a techie that said that my warranty was expired and offered no advice.
My USB ports on the front and back and my digital media manager with my memory stick slot no longer register anything I hook up to them.
