Computer won't boot or even go through POST. As soon as power is put to it, the hard drive light starts blinking in time with a click coming out of the system. Power supply is good (I have a tester). I have removed the hard drive, CPU, and RAM, one at a time with the same results. I figure it is either the motherboard or the CPU. How can I confirm the problem?

You can take your CPU to a shop and have it tested. That's easier than taking your MOBO. Or you may have a friend who will swap CPUs with you as a trial.

Have you tried a new video card. Also when you take the memory out the your pc make rapid beeps. If not I would say it is a mobo/cpu problem. It is very hard to find out which of the two it is without having a spare set to test with. You can try what badboy said and take it somewhere to get tested.

Thanks for the responses. Video card is on the mobo. Don't know of anyone else with an EMachine. How do you test a CPU? Just put it into a similar mobo or is there some kind of tester than can be purchased?

I'm having the same problem with an emachine T2042; the power supply failed and even after I replaced the power supply with a truepower 2.0 ATX12V the power light keeps blinking fast and the machine does not commence the boot sequence. Unless the power supply I bought is somehow incompatible I'm starting to think that it's a motherboard problem. Does this make sense?
Thanks,
-Ed

Are power supplies set on 115 or 230 volt with select switch?
