Emachine shutsdown, starts beeping

Emachine / W3644

Specs: Windows XP, AMD SEMPRON/896 MB RAM
While I was gone one week my cousin got a cd stuck in the burner while making a cd and opened it up to get the cd out. It didn't want to start up again and started beeping.

When I came home I opened it up and basically just wiggled wires and it started up again and now every so often the computer still shuts down and I have to just remove the side case, wiggle wires and start the computer up again, any idea as to what the heck the problem may be?

The beeping should have a pattern. Determine which BIOS type is used in your eMachines, find the proper BIOS beep code list, then see what's listed about your beep code pattern:

When you get beeps during a boot up, that's almost always a video adapter or RAM problem.

FWIW to XP users: When you click on the 'Command Prompt' you are just causing the 'Command prompt' to be displayed. This prompt gives you access to NTVDM.EXE, the 'NT Virtual DOS Manager'.
