Comment:
I finally got my DVD portable player replaced with a Panasonic one. One of the features with the Panasonic DVD player is "electronic skip protection". It doesn't mention it in the manual.

So what exactly is electronic skip protection?
Is it to help to stop skipping of CDs with scratches? Or something else?

British slang for an old man, according to merriam-webster.com.

But they also list the definition we're looking for:
buffer (n.)
5: a temporary storage unit (as in a computer); especially : one that accepts information at one rate and delivers it at another

The unit reads ahead and then plays that file. By doing that it smooths out any interruptions in the read.
