I'm in a bit of a dilemma and was hoping someone could help me out with some pros, cons and tough decision making!
I recently began looking at reviews for the Asus EEE PC online. I've never had a laptop or anything like that so I became quite interested - currently I have only my desktop which is anything but portable, but I'd like to be able to sit in another room or something and surf the net etc. So I thought, I'll go for the 900 Series, with 20GB storage and I'll shove Windows on there myself. The model I want costs £289
Then my dad pointed out that there is an Acer Aspire 7520 laptop on Amazon for £299 - only £10 more - which has made my decision come to a stand still because I just can't decide!
On the one hand I never set out for a full on laptop - I just wanted something simple and compact that I could browse the net on and be portable with. On the other hand, when there is a full on laptop (although not by any stretch of the imagination a fantastic spec, it has relatively modern CPU, compared to a 900Mhz Celeron which was around at the turn of the millennium!) for only £10 more, then it makes it seem like a no brainer - the EEE PC with it's smaller storage, no CD/DVD media and small screen or a 17" widescreen, DVD, full sound, 80GB Drive, Vista?
It's kind of made it an impossible decision for me and I'm beginning to lose sight of what I was looking for in the first place. Just what justifies the EEE PC being almost the exact same price as the Acer model? Any info and advice would be great, although ultimately I do know it has to be my decision!
Cheers

Personally, I wouldn't buy a laptop without a CD/DVD combination drive. They are needed for backups and recovery from problems.

80GB? You wish. It's actually 12GB built-in with 8GB SSD Flash.
Vista? Again you wish - it's actually XP Home.

XpUser,
If you'd bothered to read my post properly you'd see that I was talking about the Acer model...

"I've never had a laptop or anything like"
Then you should get the Asus EEEpc Cheap, easy, fun and when you drop it you won't be out much. Kind of like a first car. You might smash it.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

Before you settle for Asus' EeePC, you might want to vet likely contenders as well ... you might be surprised to discover the EeePC doesn't clearly lead the pack.
Acer's Aspire One
Msi's Wind
Dell's Subnote
HP's Mini-Note
