e-drive doesn't work

Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, 2.793 GHz / 509 MB
When I first go on my computer, I can insert a CD-RW in my e-drive, and see what is on it. I cannot do any editing (e.g. Delete) as I get the message that it is a Read Only. I don't understand how this happened, so that is my first question for you.

But most importantly, virtually every time I put that same CD in my e-drive, the "door" is locked. I cannot eject it by right clicking the e-drive icon in My Computer. I cannot open the e-drive door with the drive button.
The only way I can get the door open is to reboot completely. But then I have the same problem.

I have Sonic recorder.

When I click on Properties, I see 070416_1438 (E:) Properties. I have no idea what this is.

When I click on Check for up-dates, I get an "Update Manager" box with the message: "The program was unable to connect to the update server. Please check your network connection."

Please help. Thanks.

Did you install SONIC My DVD software?

I recall having it in the past and it was a buggy piece of Cr@pware. There are any number of better DVD progs available. Uninstall Sonic.

I don't recall if I installed Sonic, or if it came with the system.

Can you recommend a replacement for what you "cleverly" refer to as a piece of cr@ap.

I uninstalled Sonic. Same problem still exists. Can you give me a download from the web?

You can't edit a CD RW, try erasing it. Use something like
Deepburner or Image Burn & do a full erase.
