Comment:

Hi All,

I have a new ECS P4ITA v1.0 motherboard (info printed on mb). I want to flash the BIOS before I start installing WinXP.

I went to the ECS web site and downloaded the Award Flash Utility and v1.0D BIOS file. But, when I try to flash I get the error message 'The program file's part number does not match with your system'.

I do not know why the flash will not work. Anyone have any experience with this MB?

Thanks for any help,

Charles

Do not flash a bios unless you have a problem that you know the new bios code will fix. Bios updates are not always problem free.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

While most experienced users do not have to have a compelling reason to flash their BIOSes, the same is not true for everyone else.

However, you do not need an outstanding IQ to do it either - if you know what you are doing. I would advise that you go back to square one and retry it again, but make sure you are using the correct flash utility and the appropriate BIOS version before you proceed.

It may be new to you, but it's it's defintely not new. I think most people would tell you not to waste your time on a socket 423 board, but that's your business.

Why do you feel you need a BIOS update? I had a look at the ECS website & the BIOS update is for P4ITA(PCB:1.0B). Do you have PCB v1.0B?

It seems to me that if the error message says, 'The program file's part number does not match with your system', you apparently have the wrong BIOS for your board.

I need to flash the BIOS because I will also install Win2000 Pro and I do have an ATI AGP graphics card. This problem is addressed in the new BIOS file.

Also, v1.0E addresses a problem in WinXP but I can not find this BIOS file. I found a mention of it in the FAQ section on the ECS web site.

Yes, I know the motherboard is old, only new to me, but I have a 423 pin CPU and needed to replace a burned out ABit motherboard.

Anyway, to make a long story short I found a flash program called UniFlash. This flash program had no trouble flashing the BIOS at all. I now have the P4ITA v1.0D BIOS installed and working.

Thanks for all the help,

Charles
