I bought a ECS KT600-A Socket A Motherboard
from outpost. Hooked everything up and the power came on for a second and immediately shut back off. I tried to turn it on again and it's still dead. I should have bought a better brand. Socket A is so old i didn't want to put to a lot of money in my system.

I have antec 500 sp power supply.

My typical response is "did you bother to benchtest the board before installing it in the case"?

What CPU do you have? Are you 100% sure you installed everything correctly? All motherboard standoffs in the right place? HSF securely fastened & correctly oriented on the CPU? Thermal material used?

Well one thing I didn't do because, I didn't have any on me was use thermal paste and I will pick some up on the way home from work. So, i will definetly check that first. CPU was my brothers so it is used and had some thermal paste on it. I was hopeing that was enough, but maybe not.

My cpu is athlon 2000 xp socket 462 and cool master cpu fan. I set the voltage to 133. My case is an antec super lanboy, hooks up to motherboard fairly easy.

You should always assemble the board outside the case & test it before going thru the hassle of installing in the case & finding out something's wrong. Now you have no idea what that something is....

If you didn't use paste & if by chance you installed the HSF backwards, the CPU is toast.

Remove all the cards except video and disconnect all the drives. Then see if it'll at least post.

If the PSU has a 115/230 voltage switch, make sure it's in the correct position.

HSF was put together on a previous motherboard. This hsf can only go on one way. I know the fan blows towards the processor.

There is a chance maybe the cpu is fried. I don't know what he did to it but, the power supply was bad and the vga didn't show a picture on the old motherboard. So I thought maybe a new board would be the answer.

I do have an old 900 mhz athlon i can try. Maybe that will tell if its the processor. This motherboard supports all frequency of the socket 462. Check it out or maybe you tell me something i am unaware i will post a link.
