Does anyone have any experience with Antec Earthwatts Psu's? I was thinking of getting one for my next system which will be a dual-core e6750 and the video card I'm leaning toward is an EVGA 8600GT card.

The earthwatt 500watt PSU only has 17a on the 12v rail (of which there are 2). The reviews I've read are very good but the 17a on the 12 volt rail concerns me a bit when it comes to the video card. Any reason to question this PSU's ability to handle an 8600gt?

I'm pretty sure that PSU should handle it. The 8600GT isn't a particularly power hungry card.

I've been running my relatively power hungry setup for a while on my 430W PSU and it has about 15-16 amps on each 12V rail, there is no excess heat and all voltages are stable. The Antec should easily handle that card in almost any system.

The ATX12V 2.2 spec only allows a max of 18A per +12v rail. The spec states, "In cases where expected current requirements is greater than 18A a second 12 V rail should be made available".

Some PSU manufacturer's exceed this slightly...for instance, you may run across 20A on one of the rails, but generally speaking, most manufacturer's adhere to 18A (or less). If you'd prefer a PSU with high amperage on a single +12v rail, look for a PSU that conforms to the older ATX12V 1.2 spec. For example, this Ultra Products V-Series 500W:

And just a FYI...the +12v1 rail is strictly for the CPU thru the square 4-pin ATX12V plug. The other +12v rails (+12v2, +12v3, etc) are used by the rest of the hardware that requires +12v power.

Clarify something for me. On dual rail PSUs I didn't know what you just stated above. I was under the impression that the dual rail PSUs were primarily designed for use with SLI type setups and they have TWO PCIe graphic card power connectors. I would assume that would be one on each rail?

Here is what EVGA has as recommended requirements for the 8600:

Requirements
Minimum of a 350 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 22 Amp Amps.)
Minimum 400 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)

It looks like I will need to look elsewhere for a PSU for this card.

That PSU appears to have more than enough power to run your system. Below is a link with specs on that PSU.

OUTPUT
* Total: +12V output: 34A
* +5V and +3.3V combined output: 34.2A
