Dying monitor?

I have a 4 years old 17 inch ADI Microscan and Iīm afraid itīs about to draw itīs last few breaths. Hereīs the problem:
Quite often the screen gets very, very dark. Not black, but just like the gamma settings are all the way down. Windows is dark, games are even darker. Brightness and contrast is turned all the way up on the monitor.
Hereīs what I noticed: When I turn down the refresh rate from 85 to 75 the darkness disappears and everything look fine (except for the noticeable 75 Hz flicker). This monitor is supposed to be able to run 1024x768@85 Hz and this is the settings Iīve always used. It seems like it canīt handle these settings anymore. Is this a sign of a dying monitor or is there something else that can be causing this?

Try substituting another monitor that will run and the same settings. If all is okay, you monitor is going bad. If it does the same thing, check out your video card.

Look at your Monitor Settings... and hit the DE-GAUZE button. Your Monitor will work fine after that.
