Are they? I have been using CD-RWs for a few years now and have never lost or had data corruped on a CD-RW. Never heard or read anything that would suggest they are prone to losing or corrupting data. Show me something that suggests that CD-RW are notorious for losing data.
What they are prone to is people failing to understand the difference between CR-R and CD-RW, ISO 9660 format and UDF format. Used properly they are more reliable than any magnetic medium.

Yes, they are known to have issues like that. I've had several go belly up on me and just flat out refused to work (read or write)anymore. I never use packet writing.
If you look in any computer forum that specializes in CD issues, you will find tons of posts about the poor quality of re-writable discs. One such forum is http://www.cdrom-guide.com

CDRW fail more than regular cd roms as they have two lasers and that gives them an automatic twice as likely chance of failing! Same with DVD roms. Few posts on here with bad DVD players that read cd's. 'Cause they have a DVD laser, and a CD laser. Twice as likely!
Summary: Hello, I hope someone can help me out with this problem. My Pioneer DVD-ROM player recently went bad (03/16/09), when I would attempt to close drive door it would re-open constantly and acting erratic...
Summary: For backup, data transfer (ie) moving stuff between machines, and whatever else you do with it (besides music), which media do you use, and why? Of course, the RW disks cost more.... Thanks ...
Summary: "Why does the CD-ROM cannot recongise the CD-RW ????" I'm confused by your terms. How many optical drives do you have? A CD-ROM is reader, not a writer, & some of them do not recognize CD-RW media. ...
