Reply: (edit)I'm assuming the TV is on and is set to a monitor input (VGA, or similar) when you are trying to get this cable connection to work. Take a look in Display - Settings - Advanced - somewhere - Displays? - you may have to enable the output to the TV. If that doesn't help (if the ATI software can't see the TV monitor input), your video card must be capable of using a DVI to VGA adapter to output a VGA signal. If it is, the wiring within the adapter may be specific to the card, and/or to ATI products (proprietary). If the card came with a DVI to VGA adapter, or if you can easily get one meant for that card, the adapter and a VGA to VGA cable to your VGA input on your TV will work fine for sure.

Reply: (edit)"i only have the drivers installed but wasnt aware of any other apps i needed to install for the signal to work." If you installed the proper ATI drivers and video related applications that came with the card from it's CD, or updates of those, you already have the necessary settings in Display - Settings - Advanced and/or in your ATI Catalyst settings. ".....but i have to buy another cable for that now." Or another adapter DVI female to VGA male for the DVI end of the cable (straight through wiring).

Reply: (edit)anyways yea, i totally forgot about the advanced display settings, its been over a year since i when in there to adjust anything..I enabled the secondary monitor and now its only letting me run the system with my taskbar if both "use this device as my primary monitor" and "extend my windows desktop to this monitor" are ticked. If i tick either one of them options for my primary monitor, i get no task bar..i tried setting the resolution on my primary as the same on my tv but still get same results. is there a way to run the system with both monitors on displaying everything? Reply: (edit)So did you get a Vga to Vga cable and use the DVI to Vga adapter, or is this working with the DVI to VGA cable? If you mean make everything you see on the computer monitor the same on the TV, you CLONE the primary display. It's in the Catalyst settings - see the Help there if you need to. The resolution and other settings you use for the TV depends on what it is capable of in VGA/PC mode.

Reply: (edit)I don't know. The cards I have with an ATI chipset that support two VGA or DVI/VGA displays are presently out of service. It's definately a feature of the CCC. Look in any Help in Display - Settings - Advanced - ?? or in the ATI docs or manual for the card, for mentions of CLONE. By the way, you should NOT install drivers for ATI video chipsets, and most video chipsets on a card for that matter, when they are first detected by Windows and it asks you to point to the location of the drivers, such as when you have just installed a card - Cancel that or those and run the drivers installation from the CD that came with it. If you don't run the software install from the CD, the card may not work correctly, and you will certainly have fewer selections in Display - Settings - Advanced.

Reply: (edit)I never do manual installs of drivers.I always dowload the installers from the company site and ever since ati forced users to install ccc i have been swaying away from using any new drivers as of late (if it aint broke dont fix it). But i do believe i found the old control panel i can install from a couple reputable sites. Anyways thanks for the help man its been a pleasure! Reply: (edit)As long as the old control panel still works properly, go ahead and use it, but it hasn't been available for quite a while, since before AMD bought ATI, and CCC was designed to be used with the latest drivers.
