I click on other options and nothing happens? so I load up windows media player and nothing is detected in the drive. Whats going on? I mean the drive is working right becuse it reads the dvd but it wont play it. It plays cd's fine. My friend mentioned that it deleted something called playback engine? dont know if that helps. i dont know if this would solve it. Windows and Windows Media Player do not include the necceessary codec to play DVDs. Windows Media Player can play DVDs BUT ONLY if the neccessary codec has been separately installed. If you instal another DVD playing software like Power DVD, then Windows Media Player can play DVDs as it would use the codec installed by Power DVD.
